FEATHERDRIFT -
Featherdrift sighed, immediately taking the time to slink out of camp with the first chance she had. She stretched softly and looked over her small Devon Rex body, her fur clinging to her skin and seeming like she didn't have any fur at all. She grimaced faintly and gave it a once over again, a little happy that she didn't really have to bother with grooming it that often. It was never really a mess or a big deal in the mornings so that was one thing that satisfied her. She yawned faintly and glanced around as the mornings hair hovered around her body, cool and humid. Perfect weather, in her mind. She purred faintly to herself and calmly made her way to one of the trees, pulling herself into it and laying down on a low limb as she rested her head on her paws, soaking in the calm peace of the morning while her large ears twitched and swiveled at hearing the forestry sounds around her. The birds chirping and flying around in the morning, the small scuttle of tiny mice paws and the sudden shift of undergrowth. These things she didn't mind. These things she was fairly happy with. Eventually she drifted into a light sleep and sighed in content only to realize that she had to hurry and get back to camp before she was missed.
Featherdrift stretched softly and shook herself awake, easily slinking down the tree before trotting back to camp. She grimaced faintly, not really the happiest to see everyone moving around. That meant noise and screeching and that was something her overly sensitive ears couldn't deal with. She frowned faintly and pushed that aside before creeping over to the freshkill pile and grabbing some of the prey to take so the queens could eat. Quietly she slunk into the nursery and placed some of the prey in front of each of the queens before calmly laying down, as routine, to play and mess around with the kits to distract them from their mothers.

Dull blue eyes slowly blinked open as a shadow was cast above her. She looked around, and hoped that most everyone was still fast asleep. She wondered if anyone else was awake yet, then again she wasn’t able to tell if anyone was outside the nursery. The kit couldn’t even tell if anyone was inside the nursery unless they were making plenty of noise. But the kit was beginning to get braver, and the little kit was still in her ‘prove to everyone that she was a normal kit’ attitude. Cherrykit was far from helpless, she could get around on her own just fine, despite not knowing what was going on half the time.
The tiny kit got to her paws and made her way almost to the exit of the nursery. She knew how to get to the exit, just because she had heard so many cats enter through it. Cherrykit was still learning how to use her sense of sound to make up for her sight disadvantage. It was much harder than she expected. She had to learn the cats based on their scent and what their pawsteps sounded like. This was partially the reason she was so hesitant to go outside the nursery unless her mother was with her. And even then, Cherrykit stuck close to Glaciertail.
Just as she had made up her mind to go out of the nursery and try to explore on her own, she heard pawsteps. She ran quickly back to her nest, quivering with fear. Wait, she was a big kit now! She needed to act like one. Getting onto shaky paws, she took a few cautious steps first. The scent was quite familiar, and Cherrykit was trying to remember who it was. She knew the scent of the medicine cat almost as well as she did her mother, just because of the frequent visits. This cat came in a close third. This cat visited the nursery a lot, and the only reason she knew it was safe to be around this cat was because of the frequent visitation.
The orange kitten began to charge to the she-cat, a large grin spread on her face. Finally someone to play with! Most of the other kits stayed far away from her, either because they were scared they would hurt her, or because they didn't know what to think of her not being able to see. Cherrykit stopped in front of Featherdrift and purred. "Are you here to play?"
the little kit asked. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Glaciertail opened one bleary eye, seeing her only kit happy and animated, a far cry from her usual behaviour. She also noticed Featherdrift, being her usual kind self, and offering to play with her first kit. Proudly, she lifted her head to watch the goings-on, a loud purr in her throat as she meowed:
"Cherrykit, don't be too rough on Featherdrift, or she will not come to play with you anymore!"

FEATHERDRIFT -
Featherdrift stretched softly and tried to blink the remained of noticeable sleep from her eyes before shifting to look at Cherrykit. She tipped her head softly and purred, recalling Glaciertail's only kit Cherrykit. "Of course." She mewed to the little kit, her ears lightly laying back against her head in case the kitten resulted in being loud, though Featherdrift couldn't quite imagine Cherrykit running around the nursery and screeching like all of the other kits. She paused and glanced up, smiling politely over at Glaciertail, "Oh, nonsense Glaciertail, I'll always come back to the nursery, it's a part of me." She purred softly.

Cherrykit's ears twitched at the sound of her mother's voice. Mommy was awake! The kit purred at the thought and turned her head to where she thought she had heard her mother speaking from. "Okay, Mommy. I won't be rough at all."
she mewed in agreement. The thought that Cherrykit could be rough was actually quite funny, usually she was the one telling others that they were too rough. But she didn't want her only current playmate to disappear, so she would follow Glaciertail's instructions. "Cause I don't want her not to play with me anymore. She's the bestest next to you." the tiny kit added. Turning her full attention to Featherdrift now, she was trying to contain her excitement. Someone was actually wanting to play with her! The little kit was now bouncing on her paws with excitement. She couldn't hold it in anymore. "Thank you so much, Featherdrift!" she squealed in excitement. Her whiskers were quivering now, and she was doing her best to sit still, but was failing misreably. "Do you have any fun games to play?" she asked the warrior. Cherrykit was now purring loudly, her tail twitching around frantically.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Glaciertail took another look at the two cats, one her baby, one her friend, and knew that Cherrykit was in very good paws here. Still, she was slightly worried about her first kit, being that she was completely blind and all... but still, she'd ask Hawkstar if, when the time came, Featherdrift could be her mentor... I'd do it myself, but i'm just a queen. I can't teach what I don't completely understand... Featherdrift however, she'd look after her. She'd teach her right from wrong and make her a warrior the whole Clan can be proud of. She'd show the whole Clan that a cat who was born blind can make a difference to her Clan.
As it was, that was a long way off, a few moons at least. Glaciertail had this time to spend with her kit, dependent on her in a lot of ways. She wouldn't change her kit for the world.
"Featherdrift, later on, can I talk to you? It's quite important, just play with Cherrykit first, before she excites herself into a frenzy!
And Cherrykit, if you feel tired, tell her."

FEATHERDRIFT -
Featherdrift smiled softly, absolutely adoring the affection the kit had for her mother. She purred softly and looked back to the little kit as she bounced in place, excitement obvious in her tone of voice and movements. "You're welcome." She mewed in reply, pausing thoughtfully to rest her head briefly on her paws to go through game ideas for Cherrykit. "Hm," She murmured quietly in thought, pausing in slight surprise when she heard her name before glancing up to look over at Gaciertail. "Of course, Glaciertail." She answered with a small nod before looking back to Cherrykit and tipping her head curiously. "Well, what games do you have in mind, Cherrykit? Let's do something you want to do." She stated with another small purr lingering in her throat.

Cherrykit was completely oblivious to anything and everything other than Featherdrift at this point. The little kit was focusing all her senses availiable on the she-cat. Her sightless gaze was even staring in the general direction of the warrior. But the one voice that could always snap her out of any trance soon caught her attention. Instead of turning her head around to face her mother she just mewled in delight. Mommy was letting her play! With a sigh, she finally turned to Glaciertail. "Mommy, that's not funny. I won't excite myself into a fr-fr-whatever you said!"
she said as if she knew what the word had meant. She nodded at her mother's other statement. "I will Mommy! I'll even yell loud enough so you know I'm tired." she said, half joking. The tiny kit let out gasp of surprise. She got to choose? This was the bestest day ever! Usually she just joined in whatever game she could, if the bigger kits let her. Never had she been able to choose on her own. The bouncing on her paws had stopped and now she was letting out mewls of delight. Cherrykit only stopped for a few seconds and sat still while she thought. "Can we play chase? I'm really good at it, and then will you tell me a story?" Despite Cherrykit being small and blind, she was good at chasing others. Now that she knew Featherdrift's scent, it would be easier. And she knew her way around the nursery, so unless something had changed in the layout, Cherrykit could easily be like any other kit. However, the small size did not help with her stamina. She wore out easily. But getting her to admit that she needed a nap was quite difficult. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Glaciertail stretched delicately, picked her way towards the mouth of the nursery. "Featherdrift, I'm going to go and stretch my legs for a few moments. Keep an eye on Cherrykit for me, will you? She's bound to get into mischief otherwise!" Purring, she left the den, returning a few tail-shakes later to find her kit and her closest friend in mid- chase. WC: 67 Comments: Not feeling the most musey at this point, wasn't even expecting it to be this length! Haha
