Ashpaw looked around. He had slipped of, planning to surprise his clan mates by catching his own prey. He looked around the sandy hollow, then crouched down, scenting for prey. He spotted a small squirrel, and lowering himself, he wiggled slightly before pouncing. Just as his paws left the ground, a loud, pained screech echoed through the air. At the sound, Ashpaw flinched, and the squirrel darted to the safety of a tree. The young tom skidded to a stop, being unable to catch his fall. He slid, then came to a stop. He looked up, then shook the sand out of his long, silky calico fur. He licked his pelt back into place, then slowly stood up and looked around. The noise had startled him, and now he cautiously headed in the direction from which it came to find the source. His movements stiff and jerky from the fright. He knew that he shouldn't be here alone, and that if anything bad happened, his mentor and his clan mates would blame themselves, saying that he was too young, and still learning. That wasn't true, he did know better, but that had never stopped him before.

Tigershadow appeared from the shadows as if by magic.
"Ashpaw, that was a very good technique you showed there. If you had not hesitated so long, you would have caught it... Your mentor must be teaching you well."
Tigershadow looked proud. "Now, of that noise... would you like me to come with you and check it out?"

Ashpaw looked around and spotted Tigershadow. He moved toward the warrior, hoping he knew what the noise was. As the warrior spoke, Ashpaw lifted his tail, and held his head high. He enjoyed listening to others praise him. The comment about his hisitation stung slightly, but not enough to last. Thank you. he said respectfully. Then looked in the direction of the sound again when Tigershadow mentioned it. Yes. he answered quickly, speaking quietly to hide the quivver of fear in his voice. He had to know what had made that awfal noise, but was afraid of what they would find. He was grateful to have the older warrior with him, knowing that they could discover what it was together. That thought gave him confidance, allowing him to regain his proud stance, head high, tail held up.

A dark grey kitty leaped out of the lush green tree tops. It landed in front of the warrior and the apprentice. Good more cats to help, we must hurry Dovepaw is stuck in a tree. Darkpaw shouted as he looked in the way he had come from.

Tigershadow looked blank for a moment. "My apprentice is stuck in a tree?! Darkpaw, please go get some other cat to help. I'm currently busy with Ashpaw here." The she-cat motioned to the apprentice with her tail. "We're just going to go and check something out, and then we'll be right with you."
To Ashpaw, she nodded, then began to lead the way towards the source of the noise.

Ashpaw looked from Tigershadow to Darkpaw, then back again. The news about Dovepaw frightened him, but not as much as the noise had. As Tigershadow spoke and took care of things, he wondered something. Um, Tigershadow, could that noise we heard have been her? he asked when Dovepaw was out hearing. Still he made sure his voice was almost a whisper. The calico tom knew that it wasn't impossible for a cat to get stuck in a tree, but it didn't happen much to a Thunderclan cat. Tigershadow's nod had helped Ashpaw feel confident that she would handle what ever they found, but he was still nervous. What if a cat was hurt, and they couldn't help? What then? He tried taking a deep breath and controlling his thoughts. They didn't know that, and there was no point in worrying about something that never happened.

yes tig......do you hear that a light growling sound can be heard and followed was a screech that darkpaw knew well. please tigershadow i dovepaw need assistance even more. he meowed as he turned and faced in the direction of the growling a and screeching.
