Maplefur
The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon, staining the sky a pale pink. The birds were wide awake, chirping cheerfully, and the cats of Thunderclan were beginning their daily activities. As for Maplefur, well she was in the Sandy Hollow, eager to begin the first training session with her first apprentice, Darkpaw. Finally a mentor! She'd waited her whole life for this. There wasn't a trace of sleepiness on her! She was as excited as a kit in its first snow. They would be practicing hunting today. Not her strongest area, but she would teach the young tom all she knew.

Darkpaw had left his den and had climbed into a tree that overlooked the sandy hollow. He shook the branch he was sitting on when he noticed his mentor was there. Hoping to catch her attention he shook the branch a few more times then leaped down behind her. He wondered if he was to catch something before training for his mentor to eat while he practiced but he had tried managing to catch a small shrew like he did for him and Dovepaw when they were younger.

Maplefur
Turning around at the sound of his approach, Maplefur purred lightly. He was a good climber! Perhaps his hunting strength would be birds or squirrels."Are ya ready for your first day of training?" Before waiting for a response, she went on, "Today we're going to be practicing hunting. Specifically crouches and stalking techniques. If we have enough time, maybe even pouncing!" She went on. "Alright, show me what you already know. This'll help me learn your strengths and weaknesses."

Darkpaw crouched his hind quarters low and his tail low but not touching the ground. His breaths become quiet as he peers out at the dead shrew's buried place. He has his paws tucked in so they don't go to far away from his muzzle.

Maplefur
Maplefur stalked around her apprentice, watching his technique from all angles. He was pretty good! Especially for this being his first day. "Good good!" She nodded, "Now show me a pounce."

From a far the young apprentice didn't stray or move but upon a closer view he was making a small nod. Leaping into the air Darkpaw watched the plant he had picked to use for practice. Swiftly he landed in the center of the plane and sliced off a leaf.

Maplefur
The young she-cat nodded in approval. He was very good for such a young cat! His training would be easy. "Good job! You seem especially suited to prey like squirrels and birds. Now normally I wouldnt do this, but how about a little beginning-of-apprenticeship-assesment? From now until sunhigh, try to catch as much prey as you can. I'll be watching you, though you wont be able to see me, and monitoring your techniques. Lets begin."

Maplefur
"Of course!" The she-cat purred, padding over to Duskpaw. She nearly gasped when he unveiled the shrew. "Oh, thats wonderful! Good job! When did you catch that?" Her purr grew louder as she showered her apprentice with praise and bent down to give the catch a sniff. Maplefur wasn't the strictest mentor, that was obvious enough, and she treated her apprentice as an equal.
