Whisperingwinds lazily blinked open her eyes to a sudden brightness of the light. She softly split her jaws into a yawn as she shifted lightly in her nest, having been in a comfortable position. She blinked her blue eyes softly and yawned again, stretching and slowly standing up, shifting away from the warmth and comfort of her clan mates before slipping silently out of the Warrior's Den and glancing around camp with solemn blue eyes. Hardly anyone was up and moving around and she honestly saw that as fair boredom. She sighed, shaking her head softly and sitting down, slowly grooming her brown and tan fur.

MUDSTEP The morning sun's rays wound their way through the thornbush overhead Mudstep's den, dappling along the sandy floor. The young tom squirmed backwards; anything to avoid the obnoxious light that was trying to stir him. His brown muzzle crinkled. An eye winked open, glaring into the distorted sun beyond the den roof. "Gah... too early..." he growled, "Let me sleep..." The sun stared back in silence. Mudstep sighed. He rolled over in his mossy bed, stretching his legs up and out. He yawned. "Fine, fine," he mumbled to no one in particular, "I'll get up."
Standing up achingly slow, it took the tom a moment to get going. The morning air was damp, slightly cool. A breeze rolling off the river felt good under his warm, sleep-fur. He grinned lazily as he strolled from his den. "Good morning my clanmates!" he announced loudly into the clearing. Few cats stirred. The only response he received was a noncommittal grunt from a senior warrior across the way. He pouted. Not much excitement this morning, but alas, he would entertain himself. But his eyes caught sight of Whisperingwinds before he even had a second thought. He took note of her, slapped a smile on his muzzle, and padded over to her.
"You know what, dear Whisperingwinds? If any cat didn't know better, they'd think we were two kits of the same litter," he remarked as he plopped down next to the she-cat, inviting himself to her early morning grooming. It was true. The pair of cream-colored felines did appear similarly with their darker points and blue eyes. Although he had to admit, she was far the prettier. "Not much going on yet, is there?" he continued, "Oh, the unfortunate event of rising early..."
ooc; Sorry this is kinda long & rambly. It's been so long since I've even attempted to roleplay. Better replies to come 8)

Whisperingwinds glanced up when she heard Mudstep's loud greeting and couldn't help but let an amused smile creep to her maw as she stifled a soft laugh. She shifted her eyes away and softly proceeded with licking her slight ruffled fur down, pausing when a shadow blocked off her warm morning light. She glanced up at Mudstep when he began speaking and offered a smile of amusement, "Yes, I suppose they would." She agreed, looking him over and realizing he was right. She had never really noticed their similarities before. She shifting her eyes away and licked her paw before drawing it down her ear and face, glancing back at Mudstep and nodding in agreement. "Yeah, our warriors never want to get up when its time. The lazy furballs." She giggled softly, glancing back towards the den when a few of the warriors shifted around.

MUDSTEP Mudstep purred lightly as he stroked his own fur. The warm sun tempted him to doze back off into sleep. He shook his head a bit to rattle off the heavy feeling. "I don't blame them... I'd sleep in til sunhigh if I could get away with it," he mused, speaking between licks, "But then, I guess I'd be pretty useless." He took a moment to rub his paws over the top of his head, trying to tame his ruffled fur. A stubborn tuft simply refused to lay flat. It poked up from atop his head like a horn. He could barely see it at the top of his vision. "I always look so regal in the morning..." he mewed sarcastically, glancing over at Whisperingwinds, "The unkempt look is a good one for me, is it not?"
ooc; Nooo yours is fine. I was the one who over shot xD

Whisperginwinds glanced at Mudstep as she rose to her paws and stretched, another yawn mindlessly splitting her jaws apart. "Well, unfortunately, we don't get the luxury of sleeping until sunhigh either, so you're not alone." She stated, sitting down and letting her tail coil neatly over her paws. She paused and looked at him, unable to hide a giggle at the piece of fur standing up on his head. She rolled her eyes in amusement at her and laughed softly, "Oh it's a great look, Mudstep." She teased in sarcasm, shaking her head softly at him.

MUDSTEP Mudstep continued working away at the rogue tuft. "Funny, huh?" he replied as the she-cat giggled at him. He flopped over in defeat, stretching out on his side. "Not worth the trouble!" he mewed dramatically. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, allowing Whisperingwinds to have a bit of silence in her morning. He blinked out to look at the river that flowed along at the edge of the camp. Rays of light reached down, setting the surface ablaze with flecks of gold and orange. He marveled at it for a moment, but the feeling of awe stopped there. He didn't feel the same connection to it as his clanmates did, despite owing his livelihood to it. The most he could appreciate were the delicious fish that swam between the banks, and the warriors who caught them, yet he was no warrior. He was a talentless swimmer, awkward in the water despite his sleek, swift body. Certainly, in his position, he had no real need. But his lack of ability still burned him with a bit of embarrassment. What RiverClanner couldn't hold their own in the river? Even the youngest of kits had a better taking to it than he did. Maybe StarClan took note of that when sticking him in his place. He sighed quietly and propped himself back up, swatting his tail back and forth idly. The cream tom shifted his attention back to the she-cat beside him, a bit stumped for conversation. But his mind wandered right back to the river and a grin took his face. "Hey, while we're out here, my dear..." Mudstep, the harmless flirt - no one took him seriously anyway. "You think maybe you could teach me how not to drown?"

Whisperingwinds shook her head at him in amusement and laid down, sprawled out and soaking the morning sun into her fur. She blinked drowsily and stretched, enjoying the few moments of silence Mudstep was offering her and deciding to take the time to relax. She gave a soft sigh of content and glanced over at Mudstep, noticing he was focused on the river. She tipped her head softly, curiosity lighting up her eyes as she sat up, delighted when he began speaking again. Mudstep wasn't really known to be the quiet one. She tipped her head softly and gave a soft laugh, already up and on her paws. "Yeah, definitely. Let's go." She answered, her ears pricked forward and eyes happily watching him.

MUDSTEP As soon as the she-cat responded, he leaped up. "Charge!" he mewed, bounding to the thin river, bouncing like a spring hare. His tail darted back and forth in the breeze and his feet pranced over the smooth, paw-worn earth. He didn't pause. Suddenly he was sprung from the ground in a blur of motion, sending himself flying through the air. Gravity yanked him back down. The water was the only thing to break his fall. A splash exploded from the surface as the tomcat collided with the river. A spray of water flew up, twinkling back down to rejoin in the steady stream. Mudstep's head bobbed up again as he gasped, "Ahh! S-So cold! Still f-f-f-freezing from leafbare!"
He pawed himself afloat frantically for a moment's time, before drifting to a rock nearby. He wiggled on top of it, shivering as he turned to face the camp again. The river, a small bank, and the wide camp clearing now separated him from Whisperingwinds. He felt a twinge of fright stir within in, but he reminded himself - a RiverClanner shouldn't fear water! "Look at me!" he called to his companion, "Shaking like a wee kit!" He laughed heartily, and shook himself fiercely to remove what was still dripping from his drenched pelt. "Join me, won't you? I want to see you top that!" [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Whisperingwinds smiled curiously and trotted along after him, freezing and immediately stepping back when he launched himself into the river. She wasn't looking forward to getting splashed until she get a chance to get used to the water. Calmly she sat down and tipped her head before giving a delightfully good natured laugh when Mudstep began stammering and shaking. She paused at his words and gave a smirk of amusement, "Sure you wanna challenge me?" She called, rising up and trotted over to the river before carefully wading into the shallow, the swift current tugging and pulling at her fur. She smiled and trudged deeper, purring at the waters cool feeling. In all honesty she didn't think it was that bad.. Then again she was never one to complain over things. She looked back towards Mudstep and grinned before going along with the current and swimming over to the tom with the ease she had always had, her head bobbing above the water. Eventually she got to the rock and pulled herself up beside Mudstep, "Move over." She teased, batting a playful paw at him before pulling herself up the rest of the way and shaking out her creamy fur.

MUDSTEP Mudstep watched the she-cat wade into the water much more gracefully than he had. He resisted grimacing at her cool response to the waters. Her experienced muscles acted in harmony with the river. She was a natural. He shook the jealousy quickly. He couldn't be bitter over something so foolish. Besides, he wasn't about to dampen then morning anymore than necessary. Instead, he opted to play. As Whisperingwinds made room for herself on the rock he'd claimed, he looked at her daringly. "I said join me, not invite yourself to my rock!" he teased, a mischevious grin plastered on his face. He reached down with his paw, scoping at the water like he was catching a fish. But rather than retrieving a meal, he sent a small wave of water hurling at Whisperingwinds. A little splash never hurt.

Whisperingwinds glanced at him in amusement and smirked, squeaking in surprise when he splashed her with water, "Hey!" She giggled, looking over at him and rolling her eyes, standing beside him on the rock and shaking out her pelt. "I'll invite myself on the rock if I want to! Because unlike some people I actually swam over here, not splashed over here like a drowning cat." She teased, sitting back down and curling her tail around her paws.

Sandfur shook her head, her ears pricked as she heard voices coming from the river. she rose to her paws and silently crept out to the river to see what was going on.

MUDSTEP The tom glared playfully, growling slightly at his invader's remark. "Ah, you cruel she-cat!" Mudstep wailed in response, "It's truly unfair that you mock me, yet don't share your secrets of smooth swimming." He turned away from Whisperingwinds stubbornly on the the rock. Defiance would show her. And in flexing his best ability as a thespian, he put on a grand show. "Please, apologize. I can not help in I'm the shame of the RiverClan." he joked further, prodding for a response. He fished for something, anything to heal his terribly hurt feelings. Yet as he glanced over his shoulder to pout at her, he caught wind of another cat. Looks like someone else in the clan had risen. He spotted a tan pelt, green eyes staring at the two from the newcomer's position. Sandfur. "Any input from you, Sandfur? Your silence unsettles me!" the tom boomed in his false despair. Oh, he was dramatic as ever and loving every minute of it.

Whisperingwinds laughed softly in amusement as she sat on the rock, obviously deciding to be stubborn and not move to Mudstep's plea. "Sorry Mudstep, but I won't apologize over that topic, you should be ashamed of yourself." The she-cat teased in delight, a smirk at her maw as she watched him turn and call to Sandfur. Whisperingwinds tipped her head in amusement and smiled, she hadn't even noticed their fellow clanmate had appeared. She laughed softly at Mudstep continued on in act and playfully swatted her paw at him. "Fine, fine! Get in the water and I'll teach you to swim. Don't worry, I might not let you drown." She teased, slowly starting to shift back into the smooth current of the stream while her forepaws mindlessly rested on the rock to stay still as she waited for Mudstep to join her in the water.

MUDSTEP Mudstep couldn't resist grinning at her. He'd never truly mingled with the she-cat before, only in passing. Perhaps a good thing, as typically, getting close to a medicine cat went in hand with injury or sickness. But he'd discovered the quiet Whisperingwinds had a bit of spunk hidden within her. It delighted him to have a playmate on what would otherwise be an uneventful morning. He mewed woefully at her refusal. "I know, I am ashamed." He rocked as she pushed him, but regained his balance quickly. Before he could utter another word, he found she was already in the current again, calm and cool as the water itself. He flicked his ears back. Was that a look of concern crossing his face? He was uncertain. He was an expert at splashing and making a great fool of himself, yet full fledged swimming wasn't his forte. He could barely stay afloat. He crept to the edge of the rock, his paws lingering beside hers. He stared at the water, and then glanced at Whisperingwinds. He was desperate to regain composure, he wasn't one to lose his cool over something so foolish. "Are you sure you're not going to kill me? I'm like a rock in the water... It's sad to admit, he said quietly to her, failing to hide his worry.

Whisperingwinds smiled, her paws resting against the rock as the watched him, amusement playing over in her eyes when he continued on. Calmly she relaxed in the current, the movement of the river tugging and pulling at her slender body though she easily stayed in place, looking up at Mudstep and waiting for him to join in. She paused when he suddenly became serious and her smile faded lightly, "I'm not going to teach you in the deep, we'll start in the shallow. The currents to swift to teach a cat." She stated, watching him softly. "Come on, I'll help you over to the bank." She mewed, looking at him reassuringly. "Just hang on to me, it won't be a long swim." She stated, offering a purr.

MUDSTEP He blinked slowly, his gaze falling from her's and onto the river. He felt his pelt burn with embarrassment as genuine fear crept within him. How outrageous... he hissed to himself, trying to keep from scolding his own stupidity over the matter. He sighed as she reassured him. "Alright, but I warn you, you'll bear a dead weight with my useless tail clinging to you," he replied, forcing a dry laugh and a grin. He braced himself to reenter the current. Muscles tensing, paws twitching, he pushed into the water. Paddling furiosuly for a moment, he turned to anchor on the rock with his paws as she had. He drifted beside her, doing everything he could to resist the urge to shiver. Whether or not the shaking was due to nerves or cold was up to debate. "Lead the way, he said, trying to prep himself to move.

Whisperingwinds flinched back slight at all of his thrashing about, softly shaking some droplets of water from her face. "See, that's the first thing. You're way to tense. You have to calm down, the river's your friend if anything." She stated, offering a small purr as she watched him. "If it wasn't you wouldn't be in Riverclan." She mewed, slowly releasing the rock and paddling in place to keep up with the current and stay in place for a few seconds, though she was being a bit more graceful at it then Mudstep had been. "Let's go then." She stated, slowly starting towards the bank.

MUDSTEP Mudstep did all he could to keep a hard expression on his face. He was ashamed of his impractical and irrational fear of the water. Although he supposed it wasn't the water itself he feared - rather being the thought of going under and never breaching again. He wiggled and squirmed beside her for a moment, taking note of her advice and trying to abide by it. "This was a silly idea, really... so... embarassing..." he admitted aside from his better judgement of staying aloof. Though he then turned to find her away from the rock now, looking at him expectantly to join her as she stayed effortlessly afloat. He took a deep breath, and off he went. He tried to make it look as easy as she had, but his face was contorted with an air of fear that made it painfully obvious he was struggling. He moved just slightly behind her. He mimicked her graceful movements, paddling his legs in order through the water. He felt his nerves ease and a smile slip onto his muzzle as he realized something - he was swimming!

Whisperingwinds glanced over her shoulder back at Mudstep and a smile crept back to her maw as she purred. "See, you're doing great!" She exclaimed in delight, finally reaching the shallow water and creeping up on the back, her body dripping with water and her fur clinging to her body. She smiled and shook out her fur, sending small water droplets flying everywhere as she looked over at Mudstep. "I thought you couldn't swim." She teased softly, offering a smile as she watched the water soaked tom.
