MUDSTEP He couldn't ward off the bubbly, elated feeling surging within him. Mudstep, the medicine cat with the swimming prowess of a rock, was finally finding his river legs! He purred loudly as he swam about the water for a moment, proud of himself. He burst out without a thought, "Aha, look at me! I'm finally doing it!"
A bit too excited, perhaps? His grin was absolutely beaming as he looked to Whisperingwinds on the bank. He turned as quickly as his beginner legs could and paddled to join her. His paws met the smooth, sandy dirt and he yanked his body up, finding it much heavier when wet. He gave a good shake to free the dripping water, and smiled at her. He couldn't stop purring. "Thank you, thank you, thank you," he repeated over and over. And quite out of his character, he strolled up to nuzzle her a bit too fiercely, but his better mind was absent. He gave her head a quick lick in appreciation. He backed up to stare at her, still overjoyed. "I had no idea that this skinny ole furball could swim!" he said happily, and sat down in front of Whisperingwinds, grooming his wet fur right on the bank.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

WHISPERINGWINDS -
Whisperingwinds tipped her head softly as her blue eyes watched the tom paddle around in the water. It warmed her heart to see the Medicine Cats day brightened up at the thought of swimming around in the water instead of sinking like a rock. "You're doing great." She purred in encouragement as Mudstep delightfully kept on in the water, calmly breaking her gaze from watching him, in case he was to suddenly drown in the next five seconds, to lick at her wet fur. She paused when she heard Mudstep splash over to the bank, happy as he could possibly be, and shake out his pelt- Making water droplets fly over and cling to her slowly drying pelt. She laughed softly and smiled, shrugging her shoulders as his repeated thank you's. "Aw, you had it in you the whole time- After all, you're a Riverclanner- You just had to get some more practice." She stated with a confident nod for the tom before calmly beginning to lick at her fur to help dry it.

MUDSTEP He grinned between licks, a contented purr still rumbling in his chest. He blinked at Whisperingwinds with vast appreciation. After all, he owed it to her for breaking his fears of the water. She'd brought out a courage in him he was uncertain he had. He'd doubted the typically quiet she-cat at first, but it turned out she was a delightful teacher. "Thanks," he said again without another thought, "I'd thought perhaps I was adopted. Yet it seems you've succeeded in proving me wrong... You pesky she-cats, I despise your ability to be right."
He laughed lightly at his own joke, and smiled at her. But suddenly, he felt the cowlick atop his head spring back to attention as his fur began to dry. He yowled dramatically again. "This furious little tuft will be the death of me!" he grumbled, swiping his wet paw over it again and again. It did no good. He sighed, but a thought popped into his head. "I hate to ask, but will you help me out one more time? Just give it a little lick? He tilted his head forward and glanced at her, with pleading eyes and a devious grin. "Please, dear?[/blockquote][/blockquote]

WHISPERINGWINDS -
Whisperingwinds smiled happily and continued licking softly at her fur, eventually finishing up with it and giving up in an assumption that the rest of her pelt would air dry. She stood up to her paws to end her restless nerves and stretched, looking back to Mudstep with delightful blue eyes as the tom thanked her. "You're welcome." She purred in reply and laughed softly at his little joke, shaking her head softly at him. "Well it's a habit for we she-cats to be right. You toms seem to learn that fast." She teased, her tail flicking back and forth as she sat, licking her paw and drawing it over her ears and face once or twice. She glanced up when Mudstep yowled and couldn't help but giggle at the sight of the tuft of hair standing back on his head. "Fine." She mused, huffing a sigh of mock exasperation and glancing at him in amusement before calmly licking down the tuft on Mudstep's head. "Do you always have these kinds of bad hair days?" She teased, repeatedly licking the top of his head in determination to make the tuft of fur to lay flat.

MUDSTEP He purred in delight, happy to have his way. "You're a blessing from the great groomers of StarClan," he replied with a little smile, his head still bowed before her. The remainder of his damp pelt was still unkempt, random patches of fur stuck up in odd ways all along his slender body. Something about his fur made the fully grown tom look like nothing more than an oversized, ungroomed kitten. Like he was too soft. An unattractive feature. He didn't mind though. Right now it was getting him a pleasant cleaning from a pretty she-cat. "I unfortunately do. I can typically tame them on my own, though. However, I am quite alright with the situation I'm currently in..."
he teased. Once again, Mudstep was a terrible flirt despite his position, usually making an effort to rile up his female clanmates and make them blush. Never anything serious. Yet this time, he felt himself almost mean it. He was enjoying Whisperingwinds company a bit too much for his own good. He pulled his head away from her for a moment, raising it for her to inspect. "Any better now that your skilled tongue has graced my head?" he asked, eyes gleaming with humor.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

WHISPERINGWINDS -
Whisperingwinds rolled her eyes in amusement at Mudstep's , "Well you're a tom- I'm sure you are fine with this." She teased softly between licks, calmly pulling back over her work and smirking lightly. "It should lay flat, for now." She stated, shifting over to the side of the river where it seemed a bit deeper. They had scared the fish away from all of their splashing but from the swift flashes of silver streaking through the water it seemed they were coming back. "You know how to fish, right?" She mewed playfully, looking over at him with an amused smile as she looked over into the water, one of her paws poised to strike and hook one of the fish while her eyes followed one of the silver scaled creatures. After a second she hooked a fish in her claws and pulled it back to the bank, biting its neck to easily end its life. She glanced back to Mudstep and tipped her head softly, "Let's catch one of two more before we head back to camp. Our clan mates will appreciate it." She stated with a small purr.

MUDSTEP Mudstep sat still as the she-cat admired her own work done to his head, holding it high as if it were on show. She'd turned him a bit less silly now that his glorious cowlick had settled flat. He quickly followed her, never straying too far as he was curious as to where she was going. She led him to a slightly deeper part of the river. He wondered if she was going to make him swim again, but her request this time was of a different nature. "Now swimming may have been a personal weakness for me, but fishing, I can hold my own in,"
he replied, grinning back at her. Certainly he didn't snatch every fish that came his way, but he could nab one or two if he focused. He was quick enough for it, that was for sure. He nodded to Whisperingwinds suggestion, and padded a bit farther down stream to eye out for his own fish. He focused for a moment, watching carefully for any flicker of movement, perhaps a silvery fin. And in an instant, he was in a flash of movement, striking the fish out of the water and guiding it toward land with his paw. He finished the job quickly, and carried his prize back to his companion. "That was relatively quick, despite the fact that I've gone without practice," he mewed, setting it down for a moment. "Shall we take these back now? Two is decent enough, plus we got in a bit of play, as well. You've certainly spiced up my morning," he purred with a playful wink. He was simply too much.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

WHISPERINGWINDS -
Whisperingwinds glanced at Mudstep as her spoke and offered a smile, "Well I should hope so." She purred softly, watching him go off to his own spot a little further down from her own. She blinked and purred softly when he almost immediately yanked a fish out of the river and purred, looking back into the river to watch for anymore darting fish. She stretched softly and as she watched for the flash of silvery fish decided to take a highlight of her morning. If it wasn't for Mudstep she'd probably be off on some boring patrol keeping to herself- Instead this tom had decided to take the boring morning as an opportunity to have her show off a side she never really showed to cats she didn't know well. But in this case Mudstep was more of a friend if anything after the mornings events and she would gladly accept the friendship between the two. She paused from her thoughts and looked up when Mudstep tromped back, a small purr coming from her throat as she stood up. Before she took hold of her own fish she smiled and glanced at him, "Well you've done the same for me. You've certainly turned my boring morning around." She purred before taking the fish in her mouth and standing up, starting back to camp at a slow pace for Mudstep to keep in stride with.

MUDSTEP "But of course, can't have you enduring a boring morning. My mission is to cater to your needs," Mudstep purred, still joking ever so slightly. The cream tom walked along after Whisperingwinds, fish in mouth as they reentered camp. He glanced around. More warriors stirring now that the morning was growing older. A patrol was being organized off to his side, and an apprentice was seen skirting about the elders den. He purred. He certainly loved his clan. He took his prey to the freshkill pile, and laid the fish down. He hoped someone nabbed it soon before it started to reek. He glanced over to Whisperingwinds, wondering what to do next. Perhaps he should get back to Cherrypaw, he was sure she would be waking up and wondering where he'd gone off to. "Is our morning together complete?"
he asked, expression curious.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

WHISPERINGWINDS -
Whisperingwinds walked into camp, curiously glancing around the place in delight to see the warriors and apprentices up and moving around, more then they had been when she and Mudstep left to go the river. She walked over to the freshkill pile and laid her fish along with their food that was slowly growing plentiful. More water voles were about, the fish were flopping around in the river- The only downside was the sun beating down on all of them but Riverclan had the river to help with that. She paused and glanced back over to Mudstep when he spoke before smiling lightly and giving a nod, "I suppose it is. I had fun, thanks Mudstep." She stated, a small purr lingering in her throat.

Padfoot- "Whisperingwinds... I'm sorry I wasn't up any earlier. Bad night. Tossed and turned the whole time." The voice came from Padfoot, stretching as he left the den and entered the main camp. He admired Whisperingwinds, really he did... the way her sandy fur lay across her shoulders, her sparkling blue eyes... he was getting ahead of himself. She probably already has a mate, so what the hell are you doing, mousebrain? Even if she doesn't, the likelihood of her liking you... Very slight. VERY slight.
Padfoot smoothed down his long fur as he walked up to the she-cat. "I know you've just come back from hunting and are probably tired, but would you like to come on a patrol with me?"

WHISPERINGWINDS -
Whisperingwinds paused and shifted her eyes from Mudstep to look over to Padfoot. The she-cat lightly pricked her ears up and offered a smile, glad to see a fellow den mate up and moving around. She considered Padfoot a friend since he seemed such a nice tom. She had been on the occasional hunting and border patrol with him and normally didn't mind it since she made conversation with the tom. "Don't worry, Padfoot, it's alright. I understand." She mewed, offering a purr as she looked at the tom with a friendly gaze. She paused at his next question and gave a soft and melodic laugh. "Oh, I don't mind at all. My morning hadn't been to exhausting. I've just been swimming and hunting with Mudstep, is all." She chattered, her mood pleasant and delightful, as she looked at Padfoot with a smile at her maw.

Padfoot- Padfoot breathed a silent sigh of relief. So his beloved she cat had been swimming with the medicine cat... Silently, he turned and padded over to the fresh-kill pile, returning with the biggest fish he could find. "Mudstep, Whisperingwinds, I'd like you to have this. Swimming takes a lot of energy, and I want Whisperingwinds to have enough energy for the patrol i'm taking her on!"

MUDSTEP Mudstep smiled lightly at his companion, purring a response, "No thanks, it was truly my pleasure to keep you entertained." But quickly his attention was torn from Whisperingwinds to a new voice emerging from the direction of the warrior's den. Mudstep turned to see who it was, and in his blue gaze, he found the heavy-pawed Padfoot strolling over to them. The tabby was a tom he vaguely knew, never really having a reason to bond with the warrior. He gave a simple nod of his head to greet the newcomer, and observed him for a moment. Was that a look of affection he caught in Padfoot's eyes? He fought of a grin as he took note of this, his whiskers twitching in mild amusement as he offered them a fish. But he couldn't bare to resist poking at the situation. It was just too good. "Perhaps I better leave you two alone?" he purred with a playful wink, "I don't mean to intrude on any advances of yours, Padfoot." He grinned like the small devil he was, satisfied with what he thought was genius wit.

WHISPERINGWINDS -
Whisperingwinds glanced back to Mudstep as he spoke and purred softly, her tail flicking lightly on reflex as she paused to watch Padfoot go and retrieve a fish. She paused and glanced lightly back at Mudstep, shooting him a teasing glance. "Sure you don't need me around if your hair gets messed up again?" She purred playfully and looked back to Padfoot with a smile when he reappeared with a huge fish. Whisperingwinds blinked in slight surprise though her aura of happiness didn't seem to change in even the slightest bit. "Padfoot, I have plenty of energy, don't worry about me. Besides, there's no way possibly I'd be able to eat a fish that huge alone since the fur ball beside me chickened out." She purred good naturedly. She sighed inaudibly and curled her tail neatly over her paws, suddenly glaring over at Mudstep at his words before shaking her head softly at him in reply. "Come on, Padfoot." She mewed, standing and taking the fish before placing it back on the fresh kill pile. She paused and glanced back to Padfoot, offering a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, I'll eat once I get back." She stated softly.
