RUSSETCLAW Green eyes scanning the large field, Russetclaw was pleased to find that he and Crosspaw would be alone during their training. The tall grass was an excellent place for her to learn to hide herself in the wispy stalks, and quietly hunt the rabbits who made their home in these plains. He grinned over to the she-cat who he'd lead out here. "You ready to learn a little something, Crosspaw?" he purred to his apprentice. He was excited, and happy to finally spend time with the little warrior-to-be.
"Alright," he began loudly, "You've seen a warrior stalk, right?" He looked at her expectantly but didn't wait for her to reply. "Once I'm done with you, you'll be slipping through the grass without a sound." He continued rambling on, perhaps a bit too noisily. All the rabbits would certainly be headed underground with all the fuss he was making. "I'm going to hide, and you're going to find me. If I hear you, I'll move. Think of me like a piece of prey for now. If you're close and I run, come after me with the intent to kill!" He never really knew how to put things in the situations, but he was trying in the least. "Got it? he asked, smile still beaming, "Now wait there for a moment, hopefully you'll see me again soon."
Russetclaw set off into the grass in a full sprint, to Crosspaw's north. He twisted and wove through the field, following an old rabbit scent to keep his trail as random as possible. He moved quickly, and was soon in a spot where he'd be downwind of her, slightly to her south-west. He wanted her to track him and hunt him, all the while keeping herself silent. He crouched down and did his best, blank stared rabbit-impersonation. He moved his ears to any slight sound, and kept his nose out for any cat scent.

CROSSPAW -
Crosspaw trailed after her mentor with wide and curious eyes, practically fidgeting in place as she listened to her him. A grin immediately lit up her features when he asked if she was ready to learn and immediately let out a delighted mew of, "Yeah, Russetclaw." Eventually she managed to tone her excitement down and settled for watching the tom with excited amber eyes as she shifted and squirmed in her spot, impatiently watching Russetclaw, but pausing to occasionally glance around in thought until he began explained her assignment. Crosspaw froze up and immediately directed all of her attention and focus to Russetclaw, even though he was speaking a little too loud then needed, as she soaked up her job. "Alright." She mewed in agreement, nodding as a smug smirk appeared at her maw. In her mind she would find him, no sweat- But it turned out Russetclaw planned on making this more of a challenge for her if anything else.
She sat impatiently for a few minutes while Russetclaw's scent swarmed strongly around her, his amber eyes darting around before she eventually couldn't stand it anymore and the impatience got the better of her. Immediately she jumped up and stopped herself before she could go trudging forward into the grass to make it crackle and sway with all of the noise it made. She took a deep breath to try and calm herself for a moment before repeating Russetclaw's words to herself. "I'm going to hide, and you're going to find me. If I hear you, I'll move. Think of me like a piece of prey for now. If you're close and I run, come after me with the intent to kill! All of this involved trying to be quiet and that wasn't the best thing for Crosspaw.
Slowly she convinced herself she it couldn't be as hard as it seemed and slowly started forward, her paws silent in the grass as she trailed after Russetclaw's familiar scent in concentration. After a few minutes of weaving and tracking Crosspaw trailed to a standstill with here ears pricked forward, drinking in the scents around her. There was rabbit, the fairly strong scent of the grass and she knew for a fact, even though she was having a hard time finding the scent, that Russetclaw was around here somewhere. She frowned faintly in annoyance and took a deep breath, pausing in faint surprise when she caught the scent covered up by the rabbits trail. "Clever tom." She thought carefully, trying to focus on Russetclaw's scent. If it dropped she wouldn't able to find it again and she was determined not to let that happen.

RUSSETCLAW The tom laid calmly in his spot, ears turning to any drift of breeze or rustle of grass. He was prepared to spring. His muscles were ready to flee at the slightest sound of Crosspaw. Although he certainly wouldn't be as quick as a rabbit, he thought the simulation of chasing would inherit the same effect. He'd hunted a few dozen flighty rabbits in his day. It took perseverance to not simply give up upon the sight that they were running. He knew Crosspaw had it in her to be quick. After all, she was of WindClan. It was in her blood to run.
He remained crouched, taking an occasional whiff of the air to see if Crosspaw was close. And indeed, she was. He sat silently, listening for her. She'd found her way over the rabbit track with ease it'd seemed. He couldn't suppress a proud grin. This was his apprentice, a young cat he likened to one of his own kin, and she was proving that she would make a fine warrior already. He felt his mind wander at the thought. Her career was in his paws. It was a heavy duty that all warriors eventually bore, but Russetclaw simply couldn't contain his excitement. His apprentice would be great one day.
His thoughts had led him astray, and he nearly leaped out of his own skin as he caught notice - Crosspaw wasn't far now. In fact, she was nearly stumbling on top of him. Russetclaw caught sight of her within the grass, just a tuft of her white and ginger fur in the corner of his eye. It was not of her own fault, just the grass's terrible tendency to sway and reveal one in the wind. Immediately he sprang to his feet and bounded off. He bobbed up and down, turning sharply and dramatically as if he were really on a sprint for his life. If she wanted to catch him, she'd have to chase him.

CROSSPAW -
Crosspaw's eyes shot up in surprised at the sudden movement of grass followed by the retreat of her mentor. It took a moment to grasp what she had done before she realized she she'd been about to find him. She had found him just as he had instructed, with a few minor setbacks of losing the scent once or twice. The white and orange she-cat boasted with pride, a loud and rumbling purr lodged in her throat before she immediately cut it off, realizing she had distracted herself, before bounding after Russetclaw with delighted amber eyes. He was a good ways in front of him but if she kept at it she was bound to catch up sooner or later. She shivered faintly at the rush of air hitting her body and rushed stealthily after her mentor in the graceful and swift movements that had been passed down from Windclanner to Windclanner, her eyes locked on her target as she refused to give in to her already aching legs and bounded through the grass.
