Barkpaw looked around the Shadowclan camp. The tabby brown tom sighed as he watched the clan cats go in and out of the camp. Being a medicine cat apprentice, he would never be able to come and go as he pleased. He rarely ever got to leave the camp at all, and never alone, at least not yet. He walked over to the fresh kill pile, and taking a plump frog, he found a shadowy area near the medicine cat den. There he ate his meal, watching as she sun neared its high.

Frostbite noticed the young medicine cat apprentice and frowned a bit. She knew that being a medicine cat apprentice probably wasn't much fun. She watched as he snagged fresh-kill from the pile and wandered back to the medicine cat den. She flicked her tail feeling a bit of empathy for the little cat. It was sad as she soon realized she didn't know him name but no doubt he knew her's every clan cat knew her name and not in a good way either. She started over to him, hoping he would realize this was one of her first times being nice. The small white she-cat called out to him when she was close enough her tone icy but it was clear in those frost eyes that it was meant in the softest way possible.
"Bored enough to eat for the whole clan?"

Barkpaw looked up at the white warrior. He hadn't noticed her before, but was grateful for the attention, even if it was from Frostbite. He tilted his head slightly as he realized that she was being nice, at least for her. I... Well no. he said. In truth he was only half paying attention to the remains of the prey at his paws. He had been day dreaming as he ate. He looked down to see that their was still quite a bit of meat left. Do you want it? he asked, pushing the frog slightly in her direction with his nose.

Frostbite chuckled when he managed out a first reply. His next reply and gesture took her by surprise a bit. She wasn't use to kindness within this clan but then again he was a medicine cat. She cocked her head at him not really sure if she should eat his left over.
"No I'm fine. What is running through that head of yours? Your eyes speak on your mind thinking."
Was all she said before sitting down and curling her tail around her paws. Besides she didn't like frog certain frogs were poisonous and she and a couple elders knew this but the info wasn't shared widely. She had caught that frog so it wasn't poisonous. She sighed a bit wondering how many cats had dies by frogs.

Barkpaw noticed that for a moment Frostbite seemed unsure, then she quickly gathered herself before replying. At her reply he started to pull the frog back, then thought better of it. He was silent for a moment while the white warrior settled down. What's it like? he blurted out, answering her question. It didn't occur to him that she likely had no idea what he was talking about, he knew what he meant. He looked at the camp entrance again before glancing up to watch the fluffy clouds float slowly by.

Frostbite chuckled at his outburst of a question. She had figured that was exactly what he had been thinking on. She smirked a bit before she let the heavy silence take over she wanted it to be suspenseful for the young cat who never left the camp unless search for herbs but that was rare in Shadowclan you could say. She looked down into Barkpaws eyes her own ice eyes glossy and a bit mesmerizing. It complimented her alluring and creepy voice as she replied to him. It happened often when she was putting on an act such like this. It amused her that she had mildly got him into a trance without doing any major influences.
"It's far more than just mere excitement as it seems. Training everyday, patrolling for intruders and hunting for you clan can be fun if you enjoy it. But the battle happens to be my favorite part. Because when you see the terror in your enemies eyes right before the lights leave them as does their breath."

.Barkpaw. [/u]
The sound of Frostbite's chuckle brought Barkpaw back from his daze. The sound irritated him, but he refused to show it. As he looked back at the white warrior, he realized that she had expected his question, which only made matters worse for him. Was it that obvious? Did the whole clan know that he wanted to be just like them? He watched, trying to wait patiently, as she took her time giving her reply. In his life, he had only left the camp a few times, and never alone. His paws burned, screaming for him to let them stretch, to roam, and wander. He was the clan's medicine cat apprentice, and when he became the clan's medicine cat, he needed to know where herbs were, and the quickest way to get to them, but Mintleaf didn't seem to see it that way. As he waited, Frostbite moved, her icy blue eyes meeting his hazy hazel eyes. He wanted to look away, but refused to back down before this warrior, and he knew that even if he had wanted to, he couldn't, her eyes forced him to look back. As she spoke, her voice seemed distant, as if in a dream. He knew that being a medicine cat apprentice, he should be able to focus, but he was unused to feeling like this. Her words clawed at him, causing pain he could feel. He thought about looking to be sure he wasn't bleeding, but then reminded himself that words didn't draw blood. Then, as she finished, her last words seemed to rip out his heart. No! he cried, the anguish of her words bringing a vision of dying cats. This was a sight he had never seem, but had seen in dreams. Not visions from Starclan, or at least he didn't think they were, but still dreams, or nightmares, for that is what they truly were. He knew that Frostbite had meant for him to react like that, she had been playing with him, teasing him. She hadn't been nice, it had all been a game, and he had fallen for it. He continued to look at the snowy she-cat, but not for the same reason. Now he had control again. If that's what it means to be a Warrior, then keep your stupid rank. I don't want to be a Warrior! he said, his anger giving strength to his voice. His muddy brown striped pelt stretched over his shoulders as he stood tall, head high, tail up, shoulders wide. He knew now why they had chosen him to be the medicine cat apprentice, he was different. He had kindness and mercy that many others were unable to feel or understand.

Frostbite chuckled at his words and his stance. He seemed like he was trying to convince himself more than her. His brown pelt bristling a bit. Barkpaw was quite adorable trying to be defiant in front of her. He didn't want to be a warrior it was obvious, but his curiousity got the best of him as usual. She smiled politely at him, her tail whisking about in the air. The poor tom seemed shooked by her words as she suppested. He had also knew he wasn't the cat to want to be in a actual fight. She shook her head at the tom, he was so easily shook a kind soul in the raging fire of shadows.
"It is stupid now that you see the purpose. Darling you never had the heart for it your place as a future medicine cat is excellent for your merciful soul."
Her tone was soothing this time and her ice blue eyes a bit warm. She had frightened him on purpose so he could realize his actual place. He shouldnt go fanasting things that he didn't actually know of, she thought. If anything she did him a favor. Saved him sometime of trouble some sleep and waryness of his role. She gave him a faint smile, trying to hold back a chuckle at him. His fur still bristling and ruffled. She had gotten into his head without using real skills.
"Besides you have the mind of the medicine cat, I can tell as my words raked through your mind causing you to shiver at first. Natural warriors wouldn't of shaken but ask why I enjoy it."

.Barkpaw. [/u]
Barkpaw glared at the white she-cat when she chuckled again. Then he forced himself to relax, knowing that he was the reason she was laughing. She was making fun of him. Seeing that his defiance had the opposite affect on her, instead of the one he had meant for, he willed his muscles to relax, though he was still furious with her. She wouldn't take him seriously, though thinking about it, he didn't know if she took anything seriously, so it was a waste of time to try. He watched her, still mocking him. He wanted to run, to get as far from her as he could, but that he wouldn't do. He stood there, hiding his desire to flee her presence. Her smile and the slight flick of her tail nearly set off his temper again, but this time he was able to hold back his emotions. Her words, though kind to the ear, raked across him inside. She knew how to play him, and he was helpless before her. She had him, and he was caught, forced to obey her will. The knowledge angered him, but he knew that's just what she wanted. Trying to calm himself, he took a deep breath. Her icy eyes calling to his green eyes, wanted him to look into them again. He refused, not wanting to allow her to trap his body too. He looked at her, but kept his eyes angled away from hers. Then she started to smile again, her eyes telling that she wanted to chuckle again. He knew that he was still not in control. His fur hadn't settled down, and his body was still rigid. Her last words bothered him, but not as badly as the first few. Why? Why do you enjoy it? he asked. He had to know. He hated the thought of battle, but needed to hear her answer. An unknown need boiled inside him, and he forced himself to stay still as he listened.

Frostbite wasn't surprised when the young cat asked why. She had expected it and was full prepared for it. She leaned down to get closer to him. She could tell he was struggling to contain a furious out burst or perhaps the will to leave. The look in his green eyes showed that he knew she had him playing by the strings of her twisted beat. The white warrior ice blue eyes became storm making her orbs contain a mini blizzard it almost seemed. Her motherly voice was a bit haunting as she replied to Barkpaw's question.
"Why? Because I was born for it. Trained to do such a thing. Why are you so scared of death and the fact of killing? Because you were born into it, taught it without even realizing."
She paused she had him now she knew it. Her eyes stared at him longer making him eventually turn to look at her once way or another.
"You either disgust the nature of death or embrace, there will be no fence. Once you choose your path you made that choice. Unlike you I had no choice. Be grateful for your ways rather than becoming irritated with my own."
It was true, when she was born her father forced her to learn to fight early. He had cursed her making her a bit heartless because of it and the lose of her love by her own father was devastating as well. She now enjoyed it as when she first killed her own father with satisfaction. He had destroyed her soul at a young age and gave her a new one. Blood thristy? No she was not but she didn't mind killing if needed. The lights of a cat leaving its body was an amazing site something she wish she could capture and at times forget but who would know this? No one her secrets rested upon her alone and no one would of ever figured it. She was too good at lying.
"Not every situation is as black and white as it seems there are many gray spots no one has seen in my own fate."

.Barkpaw. [/u] Barkpaw looked back at Frostbite, letting their eyes meet as she spoke. He knew that she was a true warrior, one who charged into battle, and the last to leave. He knew this, but had always though it was just her, some twisted part of her that made it so. Now he knew different. It wasn't just her, though her blood may be thicker with it, this need for battle was in every cat. He knew that she had changed something, some important part of him had been broken, and may never be fixed. He knew this, but was unable to change it now. Gray. That's was where he was. In the gray, with no way to know black from white. He looked around, making sure they were alone, then looked back at her. He knew that his thoughts had gone deep into the black, and may never be retrieved, but there was no time to think of that. He took a deep breath, letting out a soft sigh, then stared into her icy blue eyes. Will you teach me? he spoke softly, fearing to be overheard. He knew that they would both be punished servearly for this, but his mind screamed that it had to be done. He feared she would refuse, or worse, set him up, but the question had been spoken, and could not be forgotten or ignored. He waited, silently watching her, thoughts fighting in his mind, where a battle already waged a roaring war. His heart and mind were not one, but two, fighting for their place. Both leading him away from the Warrior's Code, yet both a part of the same. The Code was different for him, and he now knew that it would never be easy for him. This was what he had been called for. This was his place. In the gray.

Frostbite watched him soak in her words. It was clear he was deciphering her meanings and using them in his current situation. She had him now and saw the die of an old light in his green eyes as it was replaced by a new one. Curiosity and defiance had been replaced by something else. She snickered at his question of her teach him. Her lip curled into a sharp snarl at the question but she managed to force the once almost snarl into a soft evil smile. Her ice blue eyes sparked with sudden interest and that was rare. She rarely took interest in anything but battle itself. She shook her head chuckling at the apprentice. Her eyes roamed over his little brown pelt and back to his hopeful glow of green eyes.
He wanted her to break the warrior code and train him. She would do no such thing, Moonstar had gained her respect and she wouldn't simply destroy it for a foolish half grown kit. Frostbite had a better idea, if he wanted to be a warrior instead of a medicine cat she would make him tell the medicine cat himself. But of course she would toy with him before proposing the cruel idea to him. She wanted to see how bad he wanted it. The determination was needed to see if he'd ever be a worthy warrior none the less worthy of a mentor as herself. She was after all a dangerous warrior for her ruthlessness and few unknown skills. She figured if he did want to be a warrior as bad his little eyes pleaded that he would suggest her to be his mentor. Little did he know that being her apprentice was a place you'd have to earn. Even Moonstar knew that as she had told him. Finally she spoke drowning out her thoughts for a moment.
"You a warrior? You don't even know what you want, foolish kit. One mintue you despised my nature now you want to learn it. You don't want this... you think you do "
As her words crashed into the air she knew well enough that the test had begun. An amused expression flickered across her face. This confused kit didn't know which paw he wanted to place in front of him first. She was sure if he wanted to really be a warrior he would soon wish he hadn't. He wasn't ready to take a life nor leave injuries. It would only leave him with mental scars for the rest of his life. Besides the medicine cat had choose him as his apprentice for a reason and it was obvious that he did not have the spirit of a warrior as he thought so. But then again only Starclan knew the real path he should take.

.Barkpaw. [/u] Barkpaw knew that she was likely to take the question as an insult, and reaction was mixed. She seemed to think him a fool for asking. She pinned him in a corner, but he had another option she didn't think of. He had no desire or intention of giving up his one and only chance of being a Medicine Cat Apprentice, but how said he couldn't learn a little on the side? Her every word mocked him, but that was fine with him. He would make his own way. He knew that he wanted to be Mintleaf's apprentice, but he also knew that he wanted more. He didn't want to lead a clan, but he did want influence and power. He wanted to be able to be useful, no matter what he was faced with. That was something everyone was unwilling to allow him to have. So he had just one choice, to take what he wanted, and to get where he wanted to be in life by himself. He would have to keep silent about this, and not let anyone know or even suspect. He had to control himself, and never let slip his plan, or his thoughts. This was his choice, his desire. This was his path, and his life. He looked at her. Forget it. Your not worth it. he said coolly, then started to turn his back to her on his way to the Medicine Den.

Frostbite watched him suck in her words. She knew he was choosing out his response. She figured he would reply with a simple few words that he figured would strike a normal cat. Except for the fact she wasn't the average cat. Never had never will be. When he spoke with his chosen words she merely smiled, before he walked away. He was quite the little cat. Most cats would dare even speak to her in such manner. He was quite amusing, as were his purpose of his words. She bit back the response of how he wasn't worth more than a normal cat but decided it was best to leave him thinking he had done something to hurt her. But within a minute she had changed her mind and before she knew it a few words slipped between her smiling lips.
"Such words, spoken from a little confused soul."
She watched him go knowing he thought he had won. She would let him it was better for his sake at least. Her words spoken before he had disappeared probably meant nothing now but maybe he would understand what exactly she meant later. He wanted to be ferocious yet a healer. He wanted to know as much moves as the usual warrior but also the skills of a Medicine cat. It is not something likely to happen unless his own mentor was to teach him. She figured that Moonstar wouldn't approve as he wanted everyone to focus on there special point as assigned. Warriors tend to fight or hunting. Medicine cat to healing. Apprentices to training and gathering. Queens to nourishing and Kits to stay out of the way and choose their path wanted before hand. It was what kept Shadowclan so organized Shaking her head and chuckling she turned headed towards the fresh-kill pile mildly hungry so she would take something small like a frog or an adolescent black bird.

.Barkpaw. Barkpaw knew that she was waiting, waiting to mock him. As he spoke, he knew to expect it even. Her smile had been intended to taunt him, but instead in helped him to calm down. She could play him, but he would learn so much more. As he turned his back and began to walk away, her words rang out around him. He wasn't sure what she had meant by them, but he was sure that they had meaning. He continued to walk away from her as she moved toward the fresh kill pile.
