Mintleaf was curled up in her den, when the sun shone through and woke her. Raising, she stretched once, and breathed in the scents of her pungent herbs that she used in order to heal her Clan. Briefly, she wondered what today would have in store, as she went out of camp to make dirt, returning to take some fresh kill.
Silently, she returned to her den, nodding at the deputy and leader as she went. Sitting there, she waited for any problems or worries that her Clan may need to see her about.

SMOKESTRIPE A big head poked into camp, green eyes sweeping from side to side with caution. Only a few elders laid off to the side, gossiping about old news and sharing tongues. To him, the coast was clear. In crept Smokestripe, trotting as silently as he could with his massive size. He had to keep quiet to avoid being seen, as his appearance was rather peculiar today. He'd had a slight mishap with a briar bush while on patrol that morning and was now stuck with a thorny twig wrapped around his tail. He'd gotten rid of the other stick and leaves that had clung to him, but the one particular briar troubling his tail was stubborn - and painful. He couldn't quite tug it out, and the small, sharp thorns had caused his fat tail to begin bleeding. He was embarrassed by it too, looking silly with an unwelcomed accessory on him. He'd snuck away from the patrol, and had charged full steam back to camp to see if the sweet Mintleaf would help him.
He entered the she-cat's den, and found her immediately in front of him, prepared to assist. He felt his fur grow hot, almost a blush as he was clumsy to explain himself. "Um, g-good morning, Mintleaf," he began, sweeping his tail into her view so she could see the offending thorns, "I-I've encountered a bit of a problem... Slipping down a hill... into a briar bush... I'm okay! But you see... His sentences were mumbled and he felt his stupidity shine through. What grown warrior gets into trouble like this? "I just... Um, it hurts. And it's bleeding. And it's stuck. Please, can you help get this off?" he asked, trying his best to not get upset. He always had an unnaturally hard time explaining himself, and felt guilty for taking time out of Mintleaf's day with his problems.
ooc: please don't feel the need to match this post's size... I found random Smokestripe muse and I had to get in some reason for his injury. xD I rambled, needless to say.

Mintleaf purred to herself, but kept her maw straight as she observed Smokestripe's injury. It wasn't nearly as bad as it looked, but if left alone, infection could set in... and she refused to let that happen.
"Smokestripe, you tried to remove this didn't you? I can tell. It's okay, i'll get you something to deal with the pain first of all, and then we can work on getting this tail of yours un-briared."
Mintleaf disappeared for a moment into her den, bringing back with her some poppy, marigold, and cobweb. She placed two seeds in front of the injured cat, with an instruction to eat them. She then turned to his back, and, working quickly but calmly so as not to cause more pain, worked on biting the briar to remove it from his tail. As she did this, the blood began to ooze, almost sluggishly, but it wasn't enough for him to be in serious trouble. Finally, after a long wait, the briar was off, and she could survey the damage more clearly. Where he had tried to pull it out was cut and bleeding, and he had a single spike still left in the base of his tail. Quickly she removed it, and began gently grooming the affected area to clean it, before placing cobweb on all the wounds, in order to stop the bleeding. This complete, she chewed up the marigold leaves, wincing at the bitter taste, before spreading the pulp on the wounds, to prevent infection.
"Now, Smokestripe, you're going to feel pretty uncomfortable for a while, so I'd like you to stay in here with me so's I can keep an eye on you. I'd also like you to not move too much, so the healing properties of the marigold has a chance to work."

SMOKESTRIPE Looking at Mintleaf with troubled eyes, Smokestripe nodded slowly, unwilling to admit that he'd tried ripping the thorns out and was probably the cause of his own bleeding. "I-I'm sorry... I thought... I thought they'd come out on their own if I tugged a little..." he said quickly, trying his best to keep his emotions at bay. He hated feeling so foolish in front of a cat so wise. He'd always been uneasy if he felt any slight scolding, even prone to tears back when he was an apprentice. But he took a deep breath to settle whatever nerves were plaguing him and proceeded to eat the poppy seeds, crunching at them slowly to give their soothing properties the best chance at working. He winced a bit at the slight tugging of the thorns as the small twig was removed, and felt relieved when the last of the prickly invaders was gone. But the cuts still stung. He tilted his head around to watch Mintleaf. Cobwebs now wrapped around his tail, and a marigold pulp felt nice against the open skin. She was very precise with her work and he felt safe within her care. She wasn't judging him for his silly injury, but simply helping him.
She finished up dressing his wounds, and he listened to her next sliver of advice with full attention. "So I get to stay here for a bit?" he asked to reassure his orders. He was pleased at this. It was a treat despite the circumstances to be in the medicine cat's company. She was always so pleasant. "Thank you, really, Mintleaf. I feel better already," he purred, grinning at her a bit. He continued, hoping to make conversation with her despite his inability to ever say anything profound, "How are you? Everything going good?"

Mintleaf purred while she sorted out the remainder of her herbs and replaced them in her allotted places, making sure all was in order before padding back out to Smokestripe. She sat down next to him and began to groom his head, sooner or later the poppy seeds would take effect and he'd be asleep, rest was exactly what he needed at this point. In between licks, she spoke.
"Oh not bad... Moonstar is determined to show everyone who's Clan is the best, and it worries me. That and the fact StarClan hasn't spoke to me in a while. That worries me too. But enough about me... How about you? Apart from losing fights with briar bushes, of course!"
Mintleaf purred quietly, and continued to groom him, as a mother would her kit.

SMOKESTRIPE Smokestripe felt warm and slightly drowsy, and he wasn't sure why. Despite having been a warrior for quite some time, he had never been given poppy seeds. The effects were new to him. He lazily looked up at Mintleaf as she sat down next to him, and purred lightly as she groomed his head. He angled his neck so he could groom her a bit as well, giving her neck a few gracious licks. He hadn't spent much time with the she-cat before, yet he was very much enjoying her company now.
"Is that true?" he asked. He'd never really run over the thought before. He'd always followed Moonstar with blind faith. But now that he pondered about it a bit, there was something about the tom that troubled Smokestripe. Something did seem a little off about their leader, yet he wasn't one to question him. "I don't get Moonstar. But I am loyal to him. He hasn't done me wrong... He won't do any the clan harm, I don't think," the tabby rambled, purring all the while as Mintleaf was still licking his head, "I don't know about StarClan either. I guess even they got to be quiet sometimes." He blushed at her last comment and thought back to his tail. The pain had certainly numbed. "I'm much better now. Thanks to you," he purred sweetly, looking up at her again.

Mintleaf could feel the sudden warmth in the den; it was as if the sun had come out and was shining specifically on her and him in that moment. She continued to groom his head, purring louder when he angled himself to groom her, too. She stole a quick look at the pulp engulfing his tail, that seemed to be doing the trick, the swelling was definitely going down... but she'd still keep him here a while. She liked the warrior's company. He calmed her. And sure, she was calm all the time, but there was something special about Smokestripe that she found unbelievably endearing. It feels so good, just to be with him... Especially when he purrs at me.
She checked his eyes for any sign of pain, and not finding any, seemed content to lay her head on his flank.

SMOKESTRIPE The big tom found them falling back into silence, yet he was content in it. The effects of the seeds had pulled him into a hazy state, on the edge of consciousness and sleep. Something he had never experienced. The feeling of Mintleaf next to him was also strange. It was prickly yet warm, and he was keenly aware of how nice her grooming felt. It was sweet of this she-cat to be so nuturing. She certainly did her job and then some. His purr rumbled deeper in the back of his throat, even as the she-cat laid down to rest her head on his thick flank. He was happy to have a body beside him; it was a rare sensation to the lonely warrior. Their clan was small, and his quiet, slow nature made him a bit unappealing for social ventures. He wondered if he could get away with staying here a while longer. "Are you sleepy too?" he asked quietly, closing his eyes. His breathing slowed. Perhaps it was the poppy seeds running his mind, but he knew he was enjoying his time with Mintleaf perhaps a bit too much for his own good. But he didn't feel concerned. Right now, all he wanted to do was take a nap with her at his side.

A lazy purr rumbled inside Mintleaf's throat. She felt she could stay here with the peaceful cat forever. Hazily, she took another look at his tail. When they woke up again, she'd have to reapply the juniper, and perhaps change the cobweb if all looked good. In a way, she was thankful for Smokestripe's collusion with the briar bush, it enabled him to come and visit her and make her feel happy, useful for once. Stretching out and getting comfortable, their pelts touching, Mintleaf curled up to sleep next to the big cat, licking his ear before he went to sleep and resting her head on his paws, next to his.

SMOKESTRIPE Eyelids falling into his gaze, the bubbly, snug feeling that filled him was taking him under. He felt Mintleaf wiggle around beside him. Her warm fur brushed against his own as she made herself comfortable. A brief lick passed over his ear; he purred softly to thank the she-cat for the kind gesture. Her presence soothed him further, leaving his whiskers twitching in content. It wasn't long before Smokestripe was swept into a solid sleep. His green eyes were shut peacefully, and any last traces were swept out of his mind as the dark silence of sleep overcame him.
...
A sudden snore awoke him - his own. Smokestripe jerked his head up in a flash, looking around urgently as he wondered how long they'd been asleep. He glanced to the entrance of Mintleaf's den, seeing the afternoon sky was now dappled with shades of deep pink and orange. It was almost dusk! It was nearly time for him to be headed back to the warrior's den, or perhaps on a night patrol. However his thoughts traveled back to his tail, which felt fine but looked odd with the marigold poultice dried over it. Was he supposed to stay? He'd certainly like to, but he knew his fellow warriors would find his injury insignificant and badger him for wasting his time with the medicine cat.
He turned to Mintleaf, afraid he'd stirred her. Her chest was still rising in falling in a rhythm of slumber. She was undisturbed. However, he knew he had to wake her, as he wasn't sure what she advised him to do. "Mintleaf,"
he said softly, waiting for any sign that she heard him, and then continuing, "It's nearly dark. I'm sure the other warriors are already mad for me storming off of patrol like I did, despite the tail problem... I'd like to stay, but should I? Or do you think I'd get in trouble if I did?" He looked puzzled for a moment, anticipating her reply without another word. ooc: Random Smoke muse again, please don't feel the need to post this much. xD [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Mintleaf stirred, stretching gently to remove the sleep from her limbs. She suddenly realised just how she fell asleep, and felt a great peace sweep through her. Only then did she realise he had spoken, as without a word she checked the gunk on his tail. Dried and Flaked, it would need to be replaced.
"I shall go and explain to any warriors who are ready to moan at you exactly why you aren't on patrol. I shall also explain to both the leader and deputy... I don't think you know how serious this kind of injury is. If not treated with utmost care, Smokestripe, you could lose your tail." And I really like having you around... I know you have to leave eventually, but just... just not right now. "I don't say that to frighten you, but to impress just how serious this could go if you don't stay around for at least 3 days. No patrols. Even the leader and deputy wouldn't argue with their medicine cat. And if you miss hunting that much, you could always go and hunt for us... I am pretty hungry."
Wordlessly, she took the dried marigold off his tail, surveying his wounds for any damage. One of the cobwebs had become dislodged in the night somehow, and the wound was bleeding again, so she removed them all, for mixing old and new cobweb was a sure way to ensure infection... That was one of the first things she'd learnt as a medicine cat apprentice, way back when. She replaced the cobwebs and the marigold, and licked his head again.

SMOKESTRIPE Smokestripe watched quietly as the she-cat awoke, stretching her legs out as she remained at his side. He wondered for a moment if she'd even heard him. However, she quickly replied. Partially reassuring him, but also worrying him as well. "Lose my tail?"
the tabby said with a distressed frown, but then remembered - he was in excellent care with Mintleaf. She wouldn't let that happen. He knew that. He nodded briefly, letting her finish without another word. He did suppose his clanmates wouldn't argue with the medicine cat. She had the knowledge they lacked, and she understood whatever degree of severity his injury may have been. "Thank you, Mintleaf," he mewed softly, giving her a grateful glance, "I just don't want any cat thinking I'm pulling some stunt. I hate to miss out on anything if I'm needed... I hope nobody minds."He sat for a moment, running over what she'd just said as the petite feline moved about, redressing his tail and stopping the new bleeding. He purred as she gave him a particularly fond lick on the head. She was a sweet thing, that was certain. He enjoyed her kind company more than he would have ever thought upon first entering her den. She was different from the ShadowClan stereotype of tough and rough. She was delicate, and welcoming in a way that made him feel warm; there was even an uncontrollable purr couldn't be stopped from tumbling out of him. "You said you're hungry?" he asked, looking to her, "I will hunt for us if you'd like. It won't hurt my tail, right?" ooc: she's so cute oh my gosh. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

"It won't hurt your tail if you don't go flat out. Also, not tumbling into briars would help!" here she gave an amused purr, almost like laughter. She sat down, curling her tail over her paws. "While you are away, I shall tell the Leader and Deputy. They shall just have to wait for you to be completely better before running you ragged again... And its not your fault our Clan is so small." She stretched, her petite body suddenly becoming longer, and sat back down. Her last sleep was very comfortable, but she always felt slightly cramped after a nap.

SMOKESTRIPE He nodded to her, and then looked outside. The sun had fallen out of sight now, dusk still leaving the sky with a warm glow. Their nap had eaten up most of the day, and most prey to be caught would already be stuffed up in their own little burrows and dens. The only creatures still lurking would be frogs and toads. Not exactly a choice meal for his kind medicine cat. "I'll do my best to find you something that's not slimy. I hear toad creaks already," he replied quietly, standing up to give a quick stretch. He smiled and walked a bit closer to her, and gave her a soft lick on the head. "After all, a cat so sweet deserves the best to fill her belly," he purred, still grateful he had such magnificent care. He didn't know what about the she-cat made him feel so content, but he was happy to do his best to cater to her.

OOC: Aww Peach, Aww. This thread deserves the award for the cutest thread ever, for sure! <3 IC: Mintleaf watched the tom cat go, tail still swaithed in pulp. She purred as she delicately left the den, informing the deputy that Smokestripe would be in her care for a while, until he was better. She didn't go into detail, for what she said earlier was true: No cat questions the medicine cat. She also knew that her message would shortly be passed on to the Leader, Moonstar. So, all in all, Smokestripe was fine for a while. This thought made her tingle, down to the very tip of her tail. She had grown very close to the cat in a short space of time, and she felt that what they had would stay with them for a long time.
All jobs done, she returned to her (and his) den, settled down and waited for him to return with her toad. She was inwardly looking forward to it, actually being one of the rare cats who enjoys the acquired taste of toad, indeed it was close to being her favourite!
