Ratstar looked around the camp. He licked his spiky pelt nervously, then gave up. He had tuffs of matted fur all over his body, that others claimed to look like rats, hints his name. He had long ago given up trying to get them out, but still tended to try as a nervous habit. He scanned his clan mates, the cats who called him leader, and Windclan home. What now? What did he need to do? Tensions were rising, and he knew an attack was imminent. He just hoped he was ready. He had only become a leader a few moons past, and was thus young for a clan leader. It had been unexpected, and sudden, the death of Windclan's late leader, and his promotion from clan deputy to leader, and now, well... now what? He needed to prepare his clan, and strengthen his role as leader, without breaking their trust, respect, or worse, their spirits. He needed to fully accept his role, and take responsibility of his place as leader. He needed to act!
The sun was well up, and the air warm, but held the chill of rain. As he looked up to scan the sky, he realized that the sky was quickly clouding up. Rain would be here soon, and it would be heavy. He still had time yet though, and having nothing better to do at the moment, he went out to hunt before returning to his thoughts. He needed the break, and great ideas are often thought of when they are not being pursued in thought.
He lifted himself off the dry ground, walking confidently out of his clan camp. He would be back soon, and what could go wrong in the short time he was gone? Nothing that he could think of. At least he hoped not. He walked out a ways, then stopped to scent the air, hoping to find some quick, easy prey. An easy catch would lift his spirits, but also make the task he had set before himself easier with the approaching storm clouds. He didn't have long, and knew that much of the prey would soon be taking shelter, what wasn't already doing so. He had to hurry if he wanted to come back with anything before the rain fell.
