Characters?

Just curious, but how many characters are we allowed to have? I'm just curious as to what would be a reasonable amount (not like 200 obviously, I'm only thinking of having three myself right now but I'm just curious as to what everyone else thinks! I don't wanna have too many and annoy anyone aah)
